Albert Dicken returns to Yarm

We were delighted to welcome back Albert Dicken MBE, a former parent whose contributions were instrumental in shaping Yarm School’s early success, for a tour of the school.

Albert, who served as chairman of the home improvement group Dickens, played a pivotal role during the school’s formative years. In the spirit of collaboration that defined those early days, he generously provided materials and labour to ensure the school was ready for its opening. Later, when Yarm had the opportunity to acquire the Friarage, Albert was key alongside other parents who generously helped generate crucial funds through loans and bonds to make the purchase possible.

During his visit, Albert toured the school and reflected on the transformations it has undergone over the years, describing the changes as incredible and recognising the vision of those who have developed the school over the years. While the infrastructure has changed massively, Albert noted, as many visitors do, through his interactions with staff - many of whom shared their own recollections of Dickens - that the warm sense of community and unique spirit at Yarm remain unchanged.

We take great pleasure in hosting former pupils and parents, hearing their stories, and sharing how the school continues to grow while maintaining the values that have always defined it. If you or your family would enjoy a tour of the school, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at alumni@yarmschool.org.
