The Great Yarm Geo-Photo Competiton

One Photograph. One Location. Six Words.

How much story can you tell with just a single image and a handful of words?

Whether you are heading off to an exotic corner of the globe over the break, or discovering hidden geographical wonders closer to home, this year’s Geography Department summer competition challenges you to look closer at the world around you. The Geography Department is launching a school-wide challenge to celebrate the incredible environments our community will experience over the holidays.

Your mission is to submit one powerful photograph that captures a geographical story, paired with its location and an ultra-short Six-Word Story that unlocks the geography of the image.

Naturally, we couldn’t leave you out of the fun. We are officially inviting all Alumni and former staff to enter the competition.

The rules are beautifully simple:

  • 1 Photograph (taken by you this summer)
  • 1 Location
  • 1 Story told in exactly six words

Prizes will be awarded in each category for the most visually striking photographs and the most clever, geographically accurate text combinations. The best entries from each category will form a display in the dedicated space in our departmental exhibition!

Full details and the link to enter can be found here

Deadline: Entries must be submitted by Friday 11th September.
