The new building will house a purpose-built IT and resource centre, collaborative learning area, performance space, and dining hall along with additional classrooms and a new school reception area.
The project involves the demolition of the existing dining hall, kitchen and changing rooms. Some former pupils might remember the building when it was home to two science laboratories.
After a competitive tender process, Meldrum were the successful contractor appointed and the project is due for completion Autumn 2023.
Mr Alan Hodgson, Yarm School’s Capital Development Manager said: “The School is excited about the prospect of this purpose build facility which will host a dynamic space for music and drama performances as well as dining, whilst also providing a new library, resource centre and reception area. The new reception area will give the sense of arrival for visitors and parents from the recently completed 136-space car park.
Mr Bill Sawyer, Head at Yarm Prep, said “Once complete the project will present a platform to develop skills for school and beyond. Our resource centre and library will be a collaborative learning space in which groups can tackle problem solving challenges and projects across a range of subjects. Our multi purpose hall will host concerts and provide a venue for performance opportunities for our pupils. Furthermore, we look forward to sharing the facility with the wider community and the local schools we work in partnership with.”
We look forward to showing you photos from the completed building in Autumn 2023!
