Life After Yarm |
After completing a BA Joint Honours in War Studies & History at King’s College London, he went on to gain an MA in History. Now, he is making his mark in the ever-evolving world of media, crafting insightful podcasts that delve into global political affairs.
David works as a freelance journalist, specialising in risk and commercial insurance markets globally. His role focuses on geopolitical and financial risks for commercial ventures worldwide—a career path that aligns closely with his deep interest in international relations. Recently, he has brought this expertise to podcasting, launching his own series, Political Risk podcast. His episodes have examined topics such as American political violence, Russia and Ukraine, African elections, hybrid war threats to infrastructure, and state interference within China. Forthcoming discussions set to explore the first 100 days of Trump 2.0, open-source intelligence analysis, and the security risks of renewable energy projects.
During a Politics talk, David shared his experience with students, offering valuable insights into the art of podcasting. He provided practical advice on how to get started, structure content effectively, attract an audience, and measure success in the digital age. His visit proved to be an inspiration, sparking an exciting new initiative within the Politics Society.
Motivated by David’s talk and his Political Risk podcast, students from the department have launched their own series, ‘House of Comments.’ Now three episodes in, the student-led podcast is already making waves, providing a platform for thoughtful discussion on political and current affairs - listen here.
David has kept in touch with the students involved in the podcast and even listened to the episodes. He offered advice to elevate the podcast as well as advising them on publishing it via a podcast platform.
We look forward to seeing where this initiative takes the students—and to following David’s continued success in the world of journalism and podcasting.
